Mumbai
Was to be the icing on the chrissie cake. Didn’t let it
spoil anything but we ended up at the Mumbai Fawlty Towers (The Strand) – as
Marion said Fawlty Towers without the laughs – long story to be told over a
pint. Marion made it all well again with a chrissie pressie of a foot massage (like no
other foot massage ever) just off the main market area. Then back to our favourite bistro.
The rude reception staff relented on the last day and agreed to look after our bags. Flights back weren’t till late evening and this gave us an extra days sightseeing in Mumbai. The tour included:
Gandhi Museum
Silent Tower
This is a very private place where the Parsi dispose of the dead by placing the bodies on the tower to be eaten by birds. Parsi do not believe in defiling the earth by burying or cremation. There is no admittance by non Parsi.
Water Park
Not the theme park, a major green park in Mumbia beneath which is a giant water storage facility. A quiet stroll on a hot day.
Jain Temple
The Babu Amichand Panalal Jain Temple is located in Walkeshwar area and is dedicated to Adishwara – the founder of Jainism. It was built more than 100 years ago in 1904 and is larger than most of the Jain temples in the city.
Mumbai Laundry
A colourful cauldron. The Dhobi Ghat is reputedly the largest outdoor laundry in the world. Hundreds of workers washing thousands of articles of clothing, sheets, linens, etc. in an open-air laundry.
Whilst Marion caught up on shopping in the extensive street markets Marilyn and I walked our socks off round the impressive Mumbai Museum.
All too soon it's time to collect the bags, head for the airport and wend our respective ways home. So bon voyage here's to the next trip.
